Modal Verb

우리나라 말로는 조동사이다. have(완료, 완료 진행형), is(수동태)와 달리 Modal Verb는 특별한 의미를 가져 동사를 꾸며준다. 

 

Modal Verb의 경우 뒤에 위치하는 Main verb의 agreement 문법으로 변화를 주지 못한다. 따라서 동사원형이 위치해야한다.

 

또한 to 부정사를 사용하지 못한다. 

 

can, could 가능성, 권한, 능력등에 주로 사용된다. 

I can eat ten pounds of carrot(ability)

나는 ~~을 할 수 있다. 

 

May 권한, 가능성에 사용된다. 

It may rain(possibility)

you may enter(permission)

 

shold 충고하는데 사용된다. (must 보다는 덜 강제적이다.)

you souldn't do that 

너는 땡땡을 하면 안돼! 

 

Must, Have to 강제성을 띄게 하는 조동사이다.

you must have gone way(high possibility)

you must be this tall to ride the Doom(Obligation)

 

will 미래 시제

I will run( future)
